According to a study by the University of  California, in 2009 the average American consumes 34 gigabytes of data everyday.  And I’m sure that number has only gone up in the past 4 years.  To put this into perspective, the new iPhone 5c comes in 2 sizes, 16 gigabytes and 32 gigabytes.  So, we, as Americans are consuming more data everyday than what we can store on a iPhone.

Thinking about how much data Americans get everyday, makes the data that we send out even that much more important.  In order for your data to stand out with all the other information looming for our attention, you must remember that content matters.

Imagine that you open your iPad (or internet surfing device of choice) and you go to a website and the page is blank.   What would your immediate reaction be?  Well, its the same with websites and social media accounts that lack good content.  Yes, it may not be blank, but if it not something that will capture your attention, it might as well be.  There is too much other information looming for our attention to waste our time (and part of our 34 gigabytes) on information that isn’t compelling.

So, how do you make your message and content stand out?  By putting out quality content.  Easier said than done, but here are a couple of my tips:

  1. Create a content schedule.
  2. Write and schedule your post weekly or monthly.
  3. Ask for content ideas from your fans and clients.
